How to verify GPG signatures

GPG signatures are a proof that distributed files have been signed by the owner of the signing key. For example, if this website was compromised and the original Electrum files had been replaced, signature verification would fail, because the attacker would not be able to create valid signatures. (Note that an attacker would be able to create valid hashes, this is why we do not publish hashes of our binaries here, it does not bring any security).

In order to be able to verify GPG signatures, you need to import the public key of the signer. Electrum binaries are signed with ThomasV’s public key. On Linux, you can import that key using the following command: gpg –import ThomasV.asc . Here are tutorials for Windows and macOS. When you import a key, you should check its fingerprint using independent sources, such as here, or use the Web of Trust.

Notes for Windows users

Electrum binaries are often flagged by various anti-virus software. There is nothing we can do about it, so please stop reporting that to us. Anti-virus software uses heuristics in order to determine if a program is malware, and that often results in false positives. If you trust the developers of the project, you can verify the GPG signature of Electrum binaries, and safely ignore any anti-virus warnings. If you do not trust the developers of the project, you should build the binaries yourself, or run the software from source. Finally, if you are really concerned about malware, you should not use an operating system that relies on anti-virus software.

Log Data

In a case of a crash in the app, we offer to the user the option to upload a crash log (Python traceback) to Github, where it will be public. The crash log does not contain any private keys nor private user information. However, the crash log may contain IP addresses, timestamps, device name and OS version. The crash log is viewable by the user before it is uploaded, and its publication is always opt-in.

Release distributables are reproducible, and need to be signed by at least the same two keys, before the script exposes them to the webserver.

  У самій верхній сходинці вказаний логін, натиснувши на яку, можна дізнатися повну адресу своєї поштової скриньки.   Як дізнатися адресу електронної пошти за номером телефону?

  Спочатку треба зайти на сторінку поштового сервісу, де був зареєстрований ящик. Клікнути «потрібна допомога» і вибрати «я не пам’ятаю ім’я користувача».

  Система запропонує відновити через додаткову поштову скриньку або телефон, необхідно підтвердити останнє. Вказавши свій номер, ім’я та прізвище, вибрати спосіб доставки, наприклад, СМС.

  Далі на телефон прийде перевірочний код, який і слід вписати в поле на наступній сторінці. Після перевірки коду системою висвітиться поштова адреса, до якої була здійснена прив’язка телефонного номера. Ось таким способом можна відновити адресу свого ящика.

  Можна “покликати” на допомогу сайти, якими людина користується часто або одні з останніх, на які вона заходила і залишала адресу свого ящика.

  Наприклад, якщо нещодавно було подано оголошення про продаж на сайті OLX, то на головній сторінці сайту в самому верху поруч зі значком чоловічка розташований особистий кабінет, а нижче написано адресу поштової електронної скриньки.

  Як варіант, можна зв’язатися з кимось із своїх знайомих або колег, з якими раніше велося листування поштою і попросити нагадати адресу свого ящика.

  Якщо вже зовсім ніяк не виходить дізнатися потрібну інформацію, можна звернутися в службу технічної підтримки сайту і попросити вирішити ситуацію. Як правило, проблем при цьому не виникає.

  Ну а якщо нічого важливого в старій пошті не міститься, то можна і не витрачати час на відновлення раніше використаного логіна. Можна просто обзавестися новим ящиком і користуватися на здоров’я, а для запобігання подібних проблем у подальшому написати адресу на стікері і прикріпити його на самому видному місці, наприклад, на моніторі комп’ютера.

  Складніше буде відновити забутий пароль, тому дану інформацію також варто завжди мати під рукою, особливо активним користувачам мережі, які реєструються на багатьох ресурсах.
