On October 19, 2021, RFLCT, Valkyrae’s skincare collection, was announced. It was marketed as “the skincare collection for everyone who uses a screen.” The advert claimed that the product was “designed to protect your skin against blue light,” and that blue light can damage skin. It describes ingredients such as BLPF (Blue Light Prevention Factor), and RE3 (a blend of rice extracts). Many responses to the video described it as a scam, and criticised the quality of the website’s sources, which include WebMD. [2] Some users also pointed out the existence of blue light filters on devices. [3] The video received responses from creators such as Professor Stick, [4] Dr Dray, [5] and Sykkuno amongst others. [6] [7] The brand was later taken down.
Valkyrae criticized her friends such as Jacksepticeye for not defending her, which led to more backlash. [8]
